Health Information and Publications Network (HIPNET)
April 5th 2006 Meeting Notes
Ruwaida Salem, Research Writer from the INFO Project, presented a conceptual framework for information products and services. The INFO Project developed this framework out of work process activities for Population Reports. Population Reports staff developed, what they called, an operational framework for INFO Project publications. This framework helped explain how the INFO Project developed its publications, particularly Population Reports, and for what purposes. It also helped explain how communication and knowledge management theories inform their work.
As Tara was writing her section of the HIPNET M&E Guidelines, she found herself referring back to the INFO Project Publications Framework to help her formulate her ideas about audiences and outcomes for information products and services in general. This new Conceptual Framework for Provision of Information Products and Services grew out of that work.
The group discussed the different components of the framework and focused in particular on the outcomes and audiences. The group made some suggestions to make the outcomes more measurable and reasonable (i.e. outcomes that information products and services could actually be held accountable for). The group also suggested that the "Programs & Practice" audience group should be separated into two audience groups: one for program people and one for trainers/educators. In general, the group thought the framework was very useful and that it could be applied to their work in their respective organizations.
The group was encouraged to submit any other comments or suggestions for improvement to the INFO Project. Tara would take the lead to revise the framework based on the group's suggestions and incorporate it into the HIPNET M&E Guidelines.
We anticipate the guidelines will be ready by the end of August. Please comment on the draft that will be circulated on the HIPNet listserv.
April 12th: Draft to HIPNet members

The handbook will be out by late summer. Due to budget constraints, INFO will not be printing as many copies of the handbook. But they are available for order.
To place an order plese visit http://www.infoforhealth.org/pubs/globalhandbook/
If you are planning to bulk order the handbook, please send in your order by MAY 31st.
Ruwaida demonstrated the online IUD Toolkit that was recently launched. This toolkit provides comprehensive, standardized, scientifically-accurate, and evidence-based information on the IUD, and it provides guidance on best practices as well as tools to help improve access to and quality of services. Expanding access to the IUD with high quality services helps fulfill women’s right to contraceptive choice and contributes to sustainable family planning programs.
The toolkit can be found at: http://www.maqweb.org/iudtoolkit/index.shtml
