New Effectiveness Chart

Q:I can see that it can be difficult for clients to understand measures of contraceptive effectiveness. I have to admit, I sometimes have some difficulty with it myself. Are there any innovative ways to describe effectiveness to clients?

A:Yes. I really like the approach being taken by WHO, FHI, JHU and other collaborating organizations in the development of the new contraceptive clinical handbook. Since the effectiveness numbers are hard for many to deal with, the idea is to arrange the methods in order of effectiveness. I also like the column on the right that describes what is needed to improve effectiveness with each method. The chart is also displayed at this URL:
