HIV Prevalence in a Gold Mining Camp in the Amazon Region, Guyana (research article)
The prevalence of HIV infection among men in a gold mining camp in the Amazon region of Guyana was 6.5%. This high percentage of HIV infection provides a reservoir for the virus in this region, warranting immediate public health intervention to curb its spread. As malaria is endemic in the Amazon Basin (>30,000 cases/year), the impact of coinfection may be substantial.

A Community-based Study of Childhood Morbidity in Tigray, Northern Ethiopia (research article)
A lower incidence of overall illness was found in children above 2 years of age, those from Christian families, those living in houses with corrugated iron roofs, and those from households with 2 or more children under 5 years of age. Increased incidence was associated with the use of open pit latrines compared to open air excreta disposal as there were noproperly covered latrines.

A District-based Audit of the Causes and Circumstances of Maternal Deaths in South Kalimantan, Indonesia PDF Format (research article)
The review of 130 maternal deaths yield valuable information for improvements to the quality of obstetric services in Indonesia.

Qualitative Study of Evidence-based Leaflets in Maternity Care (research article)
Leaflets designed to promote informed choices among childbearing women are evaluated for their effectiveness in educating women about their delivery choices. Health professionals promoted normative practices rather than choice, however. Because women valued the professional opinions, this led to the promotion of informed compliance rather than informed choice.

Use of Evidence-based Leaflets to Promote Informed Choice In Maternity Care: Randomized Controlled Trial in Everyday Practice (research article)
There was no change in the proportion of women who reported that they exercised informed choice among women receiving leaflets compared to those who did not receive additional information. Decision aids may not be effective without providers willing to discuss the information with clients.

The firm manufactures many types of obstetrics and gynecological surgical devices, including uterine dilators, fetal blood samplers, bone marrow needles, and harvesting pumps used in in-vitro fertilization.

A Population-Based Study of Daily Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug Use and Prostate Cancer PDF Format (research article)
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer among men in the United States. Findings in this study suggest that daily use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may be associated with a lower incidence of prostate cancer in men aged 60 years or older.
