Threats to Health and Development The negative consequences of abuse extend beyond women's sexual and reproductive health to their overall health, the welfare of their children, and even the economic and social fabric of nations. By sapping women's energy, undermining their confidence, and compromising their health, gender violence deprives society of women's full participation. As a UNIFEM report on violence observed, “Women cannot lend their labor or creative ideas fully if they are burdened with the physical and psychological scars of abuse” (73). |
