Population Reports:
Coping with Crises

How can providers meet reproductive health needs in crisis situations? What can they do to prepare themselves in advance of tsunamis, earthquakes, other natural disasters, and armed conflicts? The latest Population Reports issue from the INFO Project at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Center for Communication Programs provides some answers.

Coping with Crises: How Providers Can Meet Reproductive Health Needs in Crisis Situations, Series J, Number 53 (http://www.infoforhealth.org/pr/j53/published/j53.pdf) provides reproductive health programs with practical steps they can incorporate into their operating procedures. How to prepare for crises as well as what to do first are included. Health care providers can help reduce violence against women; they can work with international relief agencies; they can develop emergency preparedness plans for their facilities and communities, and more.

INFO's Knowledge Tools

Information in the Crises report can be accessed in Question and Answer format as well as Microsoft PowerPoint. We encourage our audience to download these tools at http://www.infoforhealth.org/pr/online.shtml and to use them in oral presentations and for preparing curricula, etc. The Q&A is designed as a quick reference and provides easy-to-understand answers to the most pertinent questions covered in this issue. The PowerPoint presentation can aid in the dissemination of the information to various audiences.
