Web Sites, by Organization with Youth Projects
Below are links to organizations that have specific youth projects or areas of concentration. The links go to project area pages where possible. Key publications from many of these organizations are grouped in the “Publications” section of the “Resources” page.
In addition to this site of the Interagency Youth Working Group, USAID is supporting two other important Web sites focusing on youth issues:
- youth-policy.com This site includes a database of more than 100 full-text documents addressing youth reproductive health from more than 40 countries, including resources for improving existing policy. It also features fact sheets and new interactive features, allowing people throughout the world to share useful policies and implementation strategies.
- MEASURE DHS “youth corner” This new section of the Measure DHS site contains data on youth from the Demographic and Health Surveys, organized in useful “quick stats,” as well as longer publications from DHS youth results.
Organizations' Web Sites
Adolescent Reproductive & Sexual Health (ARSH) (UNESCO)
ARSH is a program of UNESCO, focusing on adolescent reproductive and sexual health programs and policies in Asia and the Pacific. Information on policy and programmatic practices, lessons learned, innovative strategies, news, research, and other tools and resources are available.
Advocates for Youth is dedicated to creating programs and advocating for policies that help young people make informed and responsible decisions about their reproductive and sexual health. This link goes to the topics pages, where you can also link to a publications catalog and other resources.
Africa Regional Sexuality Resource Center (ARSRC)
ARSRC, part of a Ford Foundation initiative called "Global Dialogue on Sexual Health and Well-Being," promotes more informed public dialogue on human sexuality and contributes to positive changes in relevant policies and programs around the world. The Web site includes resources focusing on Africa.
This site gathers AIDS materials and includes this section on youth information.
Guttmacher Institute (AGI)
The Guttmacher Institute focuses on sexual and reproductive health research, policy analysis, and public education. This link goes to fact sheets, policy analysis, and research on adolescent reproductive health.
All Africa - Children and Youth Pages
This Web site includes news articles and other publications, available in English and French, from more than 200 sources representing all of Africa. The site covers a variety of topics, but often features articles on HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, and youth.
Child Rights Information Network
This Web site, available in multiple languages, provides access to reports, events, and news items about child rights, child survival, and youth programming. International publications can be searched by region or theme.
GYCA is a youth-led, UNAIDS and UNFPA supported alliance of over 3000 young leaders and adult allies working on youth and HIV/AIDS in 150 countries worldwide. GYCA empowers young leaders with the skills, knowledge, resources and opportunities they need to scale up HIV/AIDS interventions amongst their peers.
The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation
The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation is a nonprofit, private operating foundation focusing on major health care issues in the United States. This link goes to its collection of publications focusing on sex education in the United States.
A nonprofit organization, ICRW focuses on research and program development, including projects on adolescents, especially in Asia. This link takes you to descriptions of its youth projects, including links to publications.
International HIV/AIDS Alliance
This site features resources on young people who have been orphaned by AIDS, who are living with HIV, who may be currently caring for their sick parents, and children who are in families that have taken in orphans.
International Planned Parenthood, Western Hemisphere Region
Youth is a priority area for IPPF/WHR. This site, available in English and Spanish, describes its youth projects, with key strategies used in youth programming. Additional resources are also provided, including the Youth Forum and an electronic newsletter.
This organization works throughout the world on youth development in general. Their site includes a section on health education and awareness.
The INFO Project hosts a number of Web sites, including this Interagency Youth Working Group site. INFO's own site contains a useful selection of adolescent publications under its best practices section.
Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), an international public health agency linked with the World Health Organization, hosts a site that includes a variety of resources on adolescent health in both English and Spanish.
PATH, an international organization working in multiple areas, focuses on youth by encouraging healthy behavior activities. The site links to youth projects in China, Kenya, and other locations, and provides a long list of
youth publications.
This site is part of a library of documents. This section on youth, while last updated in 2005, contains a useful compilation of program examples, annotated bibliography entries, and other resources.
Pathfinder International
The adolescent sexual and reproductive health portion of the Pathfinder International site includes case studies, reports, training materials, and other publications.
This section of the Policy Project site contains a long list of publications related to youth and policy projects organized by the Policy Project. Note that this project also sponsors the
www.youth-policy.com site, featured at the top of this page.
Population Council
The Population Council’s site includes a section on
Transitions to Adulthood topics, with multiple publications on adolescent reproductive health and HIV/AIDS.
The FRONTIERS project, led by the Population Council, includes a useful list of resources on youth.
The Horizons project, led by the Population Council, includes a useful list of resources on youth.
Resource for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention
This U.S.-based organization primarily offers materials used in the U.S. on programs, research, and training associated with youth sexual health. However, many of them are also useful for developing countries.
SIECUS
This international section of the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) Web site includes profiles of the PEPFAR countries, publications on sex education in developing countries, and more.
Staying Alive
This site provides the latest information on HIV/AIDS prevention and protection, focusing on youth through its international campaigns related to World AIDS Day and year-long efforts.
UNAIDS
The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) coordinates the UN system’s response to AIDS. The Young People portion of the UNAIDS Web site includes several publications for download.
UNFPA
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) includes an Adolescents and Youth portion of its Web site with numerous publications, which can be viewed chronologically or alphabetically.
UNICEF
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works with children through adolescence, and its site features a collection of print and multimedia materials.
The World Health Organization site includes this section that summarizes the global agency’s research activities and related reports about youth.
The World Health Organization site features this section that summarizes WHO work in development of tools, services, and advocacy on behalf of youth. The link to publications on this page provides a long list of many types of resources.
Youth at the United Nations
This site hosts resources that focus on youth health issues, including policies worldwide, links to youth Web sites of member UN states , UN youth resolutions and reports, and the UN newsletter, “Youth Flash.”
