Faith-Based Family Life Education Curricula

These curricula include two designed to work with adults with a participant handbook, one for a Christian audience and one for a Muslim one. In addition, a third tool is for working with youth directly, from a Christian perspective. The manuals encourage open discussion about sexuality, reproductive health, and HIV in the context of faith communities. They are not designed to promote religion.

These manuals contain six workshops and a participant handbook designed for a Christian or Muslim audience, respectively. Participants practice communication skills and learn factual information as linked to religious teachings and appropriate Bible and Quran verses. The manuals encourage open discussion about sexuality, reproductive health, and HIV in the context of faith communities. They provide a forum to clarify Christian and Muslim values around these topics, while providing accurate technical information. They are not designed to promote religion.

Limited copies of the publications above are available. If you request one, please provide a description of how you plan to use it. Thank you for your understanding.

Workshop 1. Communicating with Young People introduces the workshop series, ideas about working with youth, and specific FLE communication steps

Workshop 2. Growing and Changing summarizes basic sexual development and reproduction and begins working with role plays, practicing the FLE communication steps

Workshop 3. Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV covers basic information on STIs, including HIV

Workshop 4. Safety and Your Future addresses gender roles, livelihood issues, the sensitive issue of unintended sex, and alcohol and drug use

Workshop 5. Family Life discusses relationships and marriage, planning a family, and contraceptive methods

Workshop 6. Resources, Responsibilities, Graduation, and Next Steps emphasizes next steps for participants, including how to refer youth to resources

The Participant Handbook contains common questions and answers to facilitate dialogue between adults and young people to ensure correct information is disseminated following workshops.

This handbook provides an introductory resource for adults working with youth in a faith context. It is adapted from the participant handbook used in a training with six, day-long workshops. The 20 sections in this handbook are grouped according to the first five workshop topics. This handbook is an easy-to-use resource, providing basic information and guidance without a formal training curriculum.

This manual contains 12 short workshops designed for working with youth in a Christian faith community. The manual provides basic information on communication, development, sexuality, reproductive health, HIV, and related issues.
