International HIV/AIDS Alliance
This organization focuses on young people who have been orphaned by AIDS, who are living with HIV, who may be currently caring for their sick parents, and who are in families that have taken in orphans. This illustrated activity guide is aimed at facilitators and trainers who work with children affected by HIV/AIDS. The guide provides 30 activities and tips for engaging children in group work, as well as ideas for ice-breakers and energizers, active listening and analytical skills, drama, mime and role play, and painting and drawing. It includes cultural and gender considerations
Building Blocks: Asia (seven PDFs, 332-437 KB; 2006)
This series of seven briefing papers are designed to assist policy-makers, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations, local government, and communities to respond to the needs of children affected by HIV and AIDS in Asia. Each paper provides principles and strategies, while offering examples of best practice from program experience in Asia.
This report draws on a workshop aimed at understanding initiatives addressing the needs of orphans and vulnerable children in east and southern Africa. It includes case studies and addresses such topics as supporting NGOs involved in community responses and creating an enabling environment for scaling up successful programs.
This report summarizes experiences of care and support programs, focusing on the Indian experiences with community- and home-based care. It includes a section on children aged 13 to 18. The report is for policy-makers and NGOs, providing summary information and ideas about collaboration and partnerships.
This CD-ROM, produced with FHI, contains an electronic library of more than 650 resources about supporting orphans and vulnerable children. These have been gathered from a wide range of organizations, drawing on years of experience. The CD-ROM can be ordered from the Alliance.
