Advocates for Youth
Advocates for Youth works in partnership with local nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to help build their capacity to create and sustain innovative adolescent reproductive and sexual health programs and policies. Currently, Advocates for Youth works in Bolivia, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Nigeria, Peru, and South Africa, as well as in the United States.
This 52-page report, using case studies, describes steps in organizing campaigns and provides information on helping youth be involved in developing, implementing, and evaluating a successful advocacy strategy for young people’s sexual health education and services in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. This 64-page report provides examples of advocacy efforts through case studies in sub-Saharan Africa. While 10 years old, it still provides useful guidance on results of advocacy approaches. (1998)
Advocacy Kit Briefs on Growing Up Global: the Changing Transitions to Adulthood in Developing Countries
This series of two-page briefs summarize key themes from Growing Up Global, a 700-page book produced in 2005 by the U.S. National Research Council and Institute of Medicine. These briefs, produced with the Population Reference Bureau, are designed to facilitate use of the data in Growing Up Global by adult and youth activists, with calls to action and advocacy tips. This series of fact sheets (2-8 pages each) covers a variety of topics on youth sexual and reproductive health. Some are available as PDFs, others only in html. (1995 to present)
This publication summarizes funding sources with an interest in adolescent reproductive health programs, including foundations, government agencies, and international NGOs. It also includes a resources section of groups working in this field. The data comes from a questionnaire sent to more than 100 organizations that provide such financial assistance. (2001)
