IPPF/WHR is composed of 46 member associations in North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Youth is one of its strategy areas, with a focus on clinical services, information and advocacy materials, gender, HIV, and other issues. It publishes two serial publications and produces occasional monographs and tools on key youth issues.
Effective Strategies in Reproductive Health Programs for Young People (PDF, 3.16 MB)
International Planned Parenthood/Western Hemisphere Region, along with eight other organizations, evaluated their youth programs to identify best practices for working with youth. This document synthesizes the strategies that proved to be effective. Each organization's project and evaluation results are discussed, along with key lessons and questions that emerged during the process of implementing, documenting, and evaluating these programs. Based on the lessons learned from a two-year project to improve knowledge and access to emergency contraception in five countries, this publication offers a step-by-step guide for project planning, recommendations on issues including youth involvement and respecting client rights, and highlights of the project from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela. This 36-page report evaluates the experience of IPPF/WHR member associations in the development of programs that use computer technologies to reach young people with sexual and reproductive health information.
