Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)
The World Health Organization’s regional office for the Americas, PAHO publishes two newsletters focusing on youth and HIV prevention and occasional publications and reports on youth issues.
Youth HIV Action, a quarterly online newsletter published since 2002, focuses on such issues as gender, the impact of STIs on youth despite virginity pledges, edutainment projects, media interventions, and youth participation.
Breaking the Silence, a quarterly online advocacy sheet also begun in 2002, focuses on prevention of HIV/AIDS among Latin American and Caribbean youth.
Youth: Choices and Change. This 392-page book reports on the application of behavioral change theories and models specifically to adolescents. It breaks new ground in explaining why some health promotion interventions aimed at positive adolescent behavior change produce the desired results, while others fail. Available for purchase from the PAHO Web site. (2005)
